Grateful. Full of gratitude. We should live our lives everyday in this state but sometimes we forget. Sometimes we get rushed. Sometimes the concerns of right now drown out our feelings of gratefulness. But there’s something about the holidays that will bring even the most negative person into a place of gratefulness.
We begin to evaluate the past months as we are coming to the end of the year. And very often (actually, always if we can see) we can look back and find reason to be grateful for our journey thus far.
Thirty days of thankfulness posts fill Facebook. There are Thankful Trees being filled up this month. People just become more aware of the blessings in their lives as they stop to recognize them in this season. And being thankful makes everyone happier.
A few months ago, I started writing a journal of 1,000 things I am thankful for. I had gotten the idea from one of my spiritual mamas. And then realized that the idea originated from Ann Voskamp and her book, One Thousand Gifts. I encourage you to begin a journal this year. I’ve been working on mine for several months and am at 657 things (gifts). I don’t write in mine everyday but then some days, I write down dozens of things. Having a place to record the things I am grateful for keeps me looking for them. Makes me aware…. of all the little things – and the big ones too.
As we celebrate in America today, the holiday of Thanksgiving, let us all keep this spirit of thankfulness and gratefulness all year long!
“…He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come.” ~Philippians 4:6 (The Voice)
