Positioning Yourself for the Best Year Yet: Become a Great Receiver of the Lord’s Love

This is Day 10 of a 10 day series of Tips to Position Yourself for the Best Year Ever!

The tenth step (and my final step) to positioning ourselves for an amazing 2015 is to…

become a great receiver of the Lord’s love.

I’m guessing many of my readers at least know of the Lord, if not have a personal relationship with Him. (If you do not, let me tell you that He is real. He loves you. And you can begin a relationship with Him just by starting to talk to Him and let Him talk to you. Find a great church and they can help you from there.)

Most of us know – in our heads – that Jesus loves us. We would tell anyone who asked that yes, we know that we are loved by Him. And we would also say that we love Him. And this is all great until the day we make a mistake, we fail in our attitude towards our kids, we fail with a harsh reaction to our spouse, we gossip about the worship leader at church, we go right in life when we should have gone left… then we can find ourselves wondering how we are going to make things right so the Lord will lavish His love on us again. So we can feel that we deserve His love again.

Everyone of us will have days when fear will come knocking at the door of our thoughts and we have a choice whether we will let fear begin to dominate or remember again how much we are loved by Him and how we can trust Him. He is the One with amazing plans for our lives, He is the One who promises to make all things work together for good for those that love Him. We never have to fear because He is always with us – no matter what we face.

1 John 4:18-19 would be a great couple of verses to memorize this year. Here it is in The Voice Translation…

“Love will never invoke fear. Perfect love expels fear, particularly the fear of punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been completed through love. We love because He has first loved us.”

We may have a few mess ups this year (or a million) and we may face a few things (or a bunch) that make us worried or scared. But we never have to doubt the love of the Lord. We can always take a step back and ask Him to fill us with His love again. Do it right now, just say, “Jesus, let me feel how much you love me right now”. I am confident that this is a request He never says ‘no’ to – this is a request that He loves to fill multiple times a day. And the great thing about receiving unending love is that we will overflow and have more than enough to give away too!

I pray that being a great receiver of His love is something we will all grow in this year. His love is always there, ready to be experienced, we just need to take a second to turn our attention towards Him and let Him fill us. I challenge you to make this a daily part of your life. I encourage you to let this be the first response when you face struggles and fears. Make it your quest to become the best receiver of His love on the planet!

I hope you enjoyed and were encouraged by these 10 tips. I pray that 2015 truly is your best year yet!
