(This is Day 5 of a 10 day series of Tips to Position Yourself for the Best Year Ever)
The fifth step to positioning ourselves for an amazing 2015 is to…
Rest is different than sleep and actually is far more than physical. A person could be laying on the couch watching TV and not be at rest. Another person could be cleaning the house and totally be at rest.
I think it’s important to understand the Biblical concept of the Sabbath rest – relaxing and ceasing from work on a regular basis. Our bodies need to recuperate from busy life and we’ll actually function the rest of the week at a higher capacity and endurance level if we will take one day to play instead of work. God thought this was so important that He put it in a list right along with ‘do not murder’. He has a pretty high regard for taking time off and I encourage you to make relaxation a habit. Work hard. Play and relax hard.
But where I really want to put the focus today is inward rest. Finding a rest for our souls. Taking a minute to regroup and refocus when we feel the stress and unrest of life taking over our emotions. There is a peace available that is actually incomprehensible to the world’s definition of peace. Finding rest and peace in the midst of the chaos and stress of life will truly change your life.
Though you cannot force yourself into this kind of rest, you can start to become of aware of when you feel that sense of rest and peace leaving you and immediately stop – it only takes a second – and ask God to fill you with His peace and rest. If we become aware of our need and ask for His help, He promises that when we ask we will receive. His spirit of peace and rest is available for us to walk in no matter where we are at and what we are facing.
One major enemy to rest is fear. The Word says that “No fear exists where His love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear…” **(1 John 4:19) The very best way to get rid of fear and come back into peace and rest is to ask God to show you how much He loves you. Do this 100 times a day if you need too. Let His love come and wash over you, getting rid of fear, thus bringing you back to a place of rest.
